The Spanish violinist receives the two-year loan of a Stradivarius and a cash prize
Francisco Garcia Fullana has won the fifth Munetsugu Angel Violin Competition in Nagoya, Japan. The 24-year-old Spanish violinist, who also took the audience prize, receives a two year-loan of the Antonio Stradivarius ‘Rainville’ violin, 1697, plus JP¥500,000 ($4,200).
A graduate of the Juilliard School and University of Southern California, and a prize winner at the 2006 Sarasate and 2003 Julio Cardona International Violin Competitions, Fullana won the violin division of the 21st Johannes Brahms Competition in Austria last year.
The Munetsugu competition is held every two years, open to international candidates under the age of 25. Chaired by Shlomo Mintz, this year’s jury included Felix Ayo, Gerard Poulet, Dong-Suk Kang, Takashi Shimizu, Machie Oguri and Kimiko Nakazawa.
