FESTIVAL INTERNACIONAL DE SANTANDER

August 3

QUINCENA MUSICAL DE SAN SEBASTIÁN

August 4

Francesca Dego, Alessandro Carbonare and Alessandro Taverna present a programme that explores a fascinating dialogue within 20th-century music through the demanding and unusual combination of violin, clarinet and piano.

The works chosen place us at the point where the classical tradition meets jazz and folk influences. The sharp, austere and often ironic rhythmic language of Stravinsky and Bartók is perfectly balanced by the lyricism of Gershwin and the melodic fluency of Menotti. Together, these are uncompromising works that leave no room for error, demanding absolute virtuosity and a deep understanding of the swing, wit and subtle irony that lie beneath the surface of these scores.

An inspired programme of remarkable artistic and intellectual depth.
