ALESSANDRO CARBONARE
BIOGRAPHY
Principal Clarinet of the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Alessandro Carbonare lived in Paris for 15 years while serving as Principal Clarinet of the Orchestre National de France. He has also collaborated with leading global ensembles, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony, and the New York Philharmonic.
A winner of major international competitions and a two-time recipient of the Diapason d’Or, Carbonare has served on the juries of the world’s most prestigious competitions for his instrument. As a dedicated educator, he has taught as a guest professor at The Juilliard School in New York and the Royal College of Music in London, and currently holds a professorship at the Accademia Chigiana in Siena.
At the personal invitation of Claudio Abbado, Carbonare serves as Principal Clarinet of both the Lucerne Festival Orchestra and the Orchestra Mozart. Their collaboration extended to acclaimed recording projects for Deutsche Grammophon, notably Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto K.622 conducted by Abbado, which earned a Grammy Award in 2013. His discography also includes The Art of the Clarinet, released on Decca.
Beyond the classical repertoire, Carbonare actively explores jazz and klezmer programs, performing alongside distinguished artists such as Paquito D’Rivera, Stefano Bollani, Michel Portal, Enrico Pieranunzi, and Louis Sclavis.
Deeply committed to music education as a tool for social development, he collaborated with Claudio Abbado on social initiatives involving the El Sistema movement, assisting the Simón Bolívar Symphony Orchestra and youth orchestras across Venezuela.
