Cantabrian Symphonists: A Sound Journey Through Cantabria’s Musical Heritage

Discover the symphonic soul of Cantabria through a unique concert that gives voice to three generations of Cantabrian composers—an exceptional opportunity to discover, or rediscover, some of the most remarkable symphonic works written by composers from this region. This concert presents a carefully curated selection spanning more than a century of musical creation in our land.

From the 19th century, the imposing Violin Concerto by Jesús de Monasterio, a figure of vital importance for the development of chamber music in Spain. From the 20th century, the evocative Suite Montañesa by Arturo Dúo Vital, whose mastery is widely praised by musicians and musicologists alike, and whose work captures the very essence of Cantabria’s landscape and spirit. And from the present day, the brilliant Concerto for Guitar and Orchestra by contemporary composer José Manuel Fernández, whose works are performed by outstanding guitarists across the world. Yet one of the key reasons behind this program lies in the fact that these works and their composers have never received the recognition they truly deserve.

This concert not only aims to move and inspire its audience, but also to reclaim and promote a musical legacy that has been too rarely shared. It stands as a representative example of Cantabria’s rich musical heritage and a step toward the acknowledgment and dissemination that so many other composers from our region rightfully deserve.
